You need a Breakthrough account to use the connector and plugin. You can't create one through the connector.

Always enter the client ID. Without it, sign-in fails with “Couldn't register with Breakthrough's sign-in service”.

claude.ai and Claude Desktop

Add it on one and it's on both.

Go to Customize → Connectors, click Add (top right) and choose Add custom connector.
Name: Breakthrough. URL: https://mcp.breakthroughsales.io/mcp. Click Continue.
Under OAuth client, choose Use your own OAuth client and enter breakthrough-mcp. Leave the secret empty. Click Add.
Click Connect and sign in to Breakthrough.

chatgpt.com · Paid plans

On chatgpt.com, go to Plugins, click Add and choose Create custom MCP server.
Name: Breakthrough. Under Connection, keep Server URL and enter https://mcp.breakthroughsales.io/mcp. Authentication: OAuth.
Open Advanced OAuth settings. Under Registration method, choose User-Defined OAuth Client. Enter breakthrough-mcp as the client ID and leave the secret empty.
Tick I understand and want to continue, click Create, and sign in to Breakthrough.

Custom Agents · Business and Enterprise plans

A workspace admin turns on custom MCP servers once: Settings → Connections → Manage tab → Enable custom MCP servers.
Open your Custom Agent's Settings, go to Tools & Access, and click Add connection → Custom MCP server.
URL: https://mcp.breakthroughsales.io/mcp. Name: Breakthrough.
Choose OAuth for authentication and enter breakthrough-mcp as the client ID. Leave any secret empty.
Click Connect and sign in to Breakthrough.

Note: On a company Claude, ChatGPT or Notion plan, your admin may need to add or allow it.

Install the Breakthrough plugin

Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor have plugins; Notion doesn't. Skipping it? The connector still works on its own, without the skills.

claude.ai and Claude Desktop

Go to Customize → Plugins, click Add, choose Add marketplace, then Add from a repository.
In URL, type breakthroughsales/plugin, or pick it from the list if your GitHub is linked, and click Sync.
Open Discover, find Breakthrough and click Add.
Open the plugin's Connectors tab and click Connect. It links to the connector from step 2, with no second sign-in.
On Claude Desktop, restart the app.

Desktop app

Install it in the desktop app. The browser can't install plugins, but once it's installed Breakthrough shows up on chatgpt.com too.

In the ChatGPT desktop app, go to Plugins → Add → Add a marketplace.
In Source, enter this URL, leave the other fields empty and click Add marketplace:https://github.com/breakthroughsales/plugin
Open the Breakthrough tab, click Breakthrough and click Install plugin.
Restart the ChatGPT desktop app for the change to take effect.

Workspace admin? Add it for everyone at chatgpt.com/admin → Marketplaces → Add → Import marketplace. Enter this URL and leave Path and Branch empty:https://github.com/breakthroughsales/plugin

Desktop app

Go to Customize → Plugins, click + Add and choose From GitHub Repository.
In Repository, enter this URL:https://github.com/breakthroughsales/plugin
Set Scope to User to add it just for you, or Team to make it available to your Cursor team.
Click Import.
Open Breakthrough and click Add to Cursor.
Restart Cursor for the change to take effect.

Check it's working

Ask your assistant this. You already signed in when you added the connector.

"Who am I in Breakthrough?"

Then ask the things it couldn't answer on its own:

"Guide me on how to structure my next call with the ACME team"

"How do I overcome the objection I faced in the call with ACME today?"

"What are my blind spots with the ACME opportunity?"

Security

Auth and security

Secured with OAuth

The MCP connector authenticates with OAuth. Each person signs in with their own Breakthrough account over an encrypted connection, and your AI tool never sees a password. Disconnect any time from your assistant's connector settings.

Never sends on your behalf

It reads and updates your Breakthrough data, like adding a contact, but never posts, sends or publishes anything. Drafts stay in your conversation.

Your organization only

Access is scoped to your company's Breakthrough account, and your admin decides who gets it.

SOC 2 and GDPR compliant

Breakthrough is SOC 2 and GDPR compliant, with security controls reviewed by an independent auditor.

Troubleshooting

“Couldn't register with Breakthrough's sign-in service”

The connector was added without our client ID. Remove it and add it again as in step 2, entering breakthrough-mcp.

The plugin's connector shows “Not added”, or Claude says the Breakthrough tools aren't loaded

Installing the plugin doesn't connect it. Open the plugin's Connectors tab and click Connect. If you haven't added the connector yet, do step 2 first. This can also happen once after a plugin update.

You don't see the option to add a plugin or connector

On a company Claude, ChatGPT or Notion plan, your admin may need to add or allow it.

“Failed to add marketplace” in Claude

Type breakthroughsales/plugin rather than the full URL, or pick it from the list. Check Manage marketplaces first, because it may already be added. On Claude Desktop, quit and reopen the app if it still fails.

Breakthrough's plugin doesn't show up on chatgpt.com in the browser

The browser can't install plugins. Install it from the ChatGPT desktop app and it shows up on chatgpt.com too. The connector from step 2 works in the browser on its own.
